Cohesive Seal
A cohesive seal is a type of adhesive bond created by a unique adhesive that adheres only to itself when pressure is applied, without the need for heat or any other type of activation. This adhesive, known as a cohesive or cold seal adhesive, is characterized by its non-tacky nature, which prevents it from sticking to other surfaces or leaving any residue.
Characteristics:
- Self-Adhering: Cohesive seals are made with adhesives that do not stick to other surfaces but bond strongly to themselves when pressed together.
- No Residue: The non-tacky nature of cohesive adhesives means that they do not leave any sticky residue, making them ideal for applications where cleanliness and presentation are important.
- Surface Integrity: Unlike some adhesives that can damage or leave marks on the surfaces to which they are applied, cohesive seals do not harm the surfaces they contact.
Applications:
Cohesive seals are widely used in packaging applications where a quick, clean, and secure seal is necessary. They are particularly favored in the packaging of medical devices, food, and sensitive electronic equipment, where contamination from adhesive residues could be problematic. Cohesive seals are also used in mailing and fulfillment services to securely seal envelopes and packages without the use of traditional adhesives.
